Ethereum or Ethereum 2 ?

Hi Guys,

Was interested in investing some money in to ethereum, but was just wondering if there’s any difference between investing in either of the two mentioned in the title.

Because on Coinbase it gives you two options, does it matter or are they both the same thing and will merge when ethereum 2 is up and running ?
