State of Crypto Preprint: Perceptions of Regulations
Many in this community participated to our survey earlier this year and we are proud to share some first results on the topic of public perceptions of crypto regulations.
Our research is under submission at the academic journal "Finance Research Letters" and the preprint is available on the SSRN: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=5560112
TLDR;
This paper surveys 1,400+ validated respondents across 150 countriestop: 🇳🇬 Nigeria, 🇹🇷 Turkey, 🇪🇹 Ethiopia, 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇪🇸 Spain, 🇺🇸 USA) to understand how different types of investors view regulatory measures.
Key finding: Public perception of crypto regulation is far from uniform. Two clear poles emerge:
- Risk-averse, trust-building investors — who tend to welcome regulatory oversight as a way to increase legitimacy and trust.
- High-commitment crypto holders — who are skeptical of regulation, seeing it as a threat to autonomy and innovation.
Bridging this divide will require transparent communication, trust-building, and targeted education.
