How does decentralized compute get used on Ethereum?

I saw this article claim you can use smartphone compute clusters to run a lot of stuff powering Bitcoin, Ethereum, TON and I think they mention some other chains. I know there’s crypto compute projects like ICP or Akash but Acurast is just using tens of thousands of linked-up smartphones. Can you really run Ethereum tasks just off smartphones? What kind of jobs, and are they valuable jobs? I like DePIN and wanna understand the size of this market.
