How does one become a cryptocurrency or blockchain expert witness that serves in court cases?
I’m exploring what it takes to become an expert witness for blockchain and crypto-related legal cases. I know this field is still evolving, but I’ve seen cases where forensic blockchain analysts and crypto experts testify in court about fraud, money laundering, and hacks.
For those with real-world experience in this area, I’d love to hear:
What career paths do people typically take to get into this role? Do most come from cybersecurity, law enforcement, finance, or straight from blockchain development? What certifications actually matter? I’ve seen mentions of things like: Certified Cryptocurrency Investigator (CCI), Certified Blockchain Security Professional (CBSP), etc.
Are any of these actually useful, or are they just resume padding?
How do you break into the field?
Is it through working with exchanges, forensic firms, or government agencies first?
I have a solid technical background in blockchain as well as analytic sciences, but I want to know what’s practically required to be taken seriously in a legal setting. Any insight or recommendations would be hugely appreciated!
