Please ELI5 why ETH hasnt really moved in the last year.

I know the price is currently 2600. But im curious, why has it not went…up? Ive really only seen it at 3500 for the last year and I would like to know why.

Is ETH going to…go up? I dont know what ETH is used for so please forgive me-hence why ELI5.
