First timer on ETH

This will be my first time purchasing a cryptocurrency. I will probably buy 1 or 2 ETH and hold for a long time. I have read several nightmares about Coinbase before and especially after BTC cracked 100k. I want to avoid all the hassle and have a safe wallet where I can store and manage, what would you recommend on this?
