Online voting

As I am trying still to better understand Eth blockchain and its potential applications, it dawned on me that its use as an uniqueness identifier could potentially permit democratic countries to securely hold elections online. Am I incorrect in my assessment and what are some of the major hurdles we would face in terms of implementation?
