Noob question about ETH transactions with lower gas price than the usual

I set up a transaction a few days ago when the gas price was around 90gwei. I set my gas price to 50. Since then the transaction has been pending. Do I need to cancel it or can it just stay pending until the gas price drops to around 60 again and will get processed? It's not clear to me if the transferred amount is in danger just from waiting for confirmation too long. Thanks in advance for your replies!
