Why did Nasim Teleb go from crypto fan to arch nemesis?

I find this one interesting because usually, you don’t see that many people go from pro crypto into staunch crypto critics (unless they got pig butchered or were burned by shitcoin gambling, in which case , that’s on them).

And then you have an industry giant like Nasim Teleb, one of my personal favourite authors, who has always been known for his contrarian views, was in crypto and even wrote the forward for the Bitcoin standard, becoming a prime hater.

He’s called it a tumour, a contagious disease, an open Ponzi scheme and more.

Notably, he had sold off all crypto and got publicly butthurt at coinbase over their poor customer service.

Some of his prime arguments are that things like btc are cult-like (which is true, but so are organised religions, MLMs, gold bugs, people who like certain cars, Tesla driver, Apple fans) and that it’s a poor inflation hedge.

The latter you can say is partially true because of volatility, but also ironic that in Lebanon (poster child of hyperinflation and where Nasim is from), BTC is up almost 13,000% to the Lebanese pound over the course of a year – 500,000% over 5 years. In fact, you can look at the data of btc against many inflating currencies and see it’s a superior choice over longer time frames. Or sure, you can try and get some dollars there and subsequently the bank will steal them and not give them to you.

His other point is about interest rates:

"At zero interest rates… for long periods of time, you are hurting the economy. You're creating bubbles, creating tumors like bitcoin, creating hedge funds that should not exist but have existed for 15 years,"

Do bubbles last 15 years? I’d say no, but in any case, did Nasim not think this while he was holding and buying btc? Did this low-interest realisation hit the second his sold his bag?

Whether or not you are for or against btc or crypto, do you think such a strong turn is normal?
do you know many people that de-orange pilled IRL and then became vocal haters (people buying at the top, for example)?
