How to easily detect a Crypto Scam in 3 Seconds
Since all of reddit is flooded with NFT scams today, here is a reminder on how to easily detect if a website is legit or a scam.
If you find some NFT airdrop or anything else crypto related that is supposedly by a big brand like Ferrari, Nike or Adidas, you can simply check if it is legit or not by looking at the domain name.
If the second level domain is not the legit domain name of the brand, it is a scam in 99.99% of the time. If it is their legit domain, there is a chance its real.
Example:
nft-brand.com -> SCAM
nft.brand.com -> might be real, if brand.com is the actual domain of the brand
brand.com/nft -> might be real, if brand.com is the actual domain of the brand
brand.net/nft -> SCAM, if brand.com is the actual domain name of the brand
You can find the actual domain name of a brand by simply googling the brand.
One example would be nft.tomorrowland.com, which is a legit website for Tomorrowland's NFTs, and tomorrowland.com is the main website of the festival. So the NFT website is a subdomain of their second level domain. If someone advertises a domain like nft-tomorrowland.com, its a scam.
Another example for a legit website is adidas.com/metaverse. Something like adidas-metaverse.com or adidas.net/metaverse can be easily identified as a scam.
One last thing, always make sure you check the actual domain you are referred to, since hyperlinks can show a different domain than they actually link to. Here is an example: adidas.com/metaverse
