Cheapest way to be eth-chain coins?

I've been getting into a few of the eth-blockchain coins as my paychecks allow, but so far I've been buying eth on Gemini (or similar exchanges), then swapping to luna/anc/etc and paying the high GAS fees every time, which is cutting into my investments, as my average buy on payday is $5-600, so the GAS fee is around 10% of my purchase. Is there a cheaper way to do this? I'm still a bit new on some of this and working to learn, but that's been my biggest holdup so far, as I hate the idea of losing 10% of every purchase off the bat. I'm hesitant to put more in when the upfront cost is so high
