LocalCryptos, one of the most-used P2P crypto exchanges, is ending operations.

This is a sad day for anonymous crypto enthusiasts.

LocalCryptos, formerly LocalEthereum, is shutting down operations in mid-November, according to a blog post they put out yesterday. They say their team is experiencing numerous health issues, and cryptocurrency's 'challenging developments in the long-term regulatory trajectory' are another major cause.

LocalCryptos and LocalBitcoins are the major globally-available P2P crypto exchanges, letting people meet with other people to buy their crypto instead of going to a KYC exchange. LocalBitcoins was the original, launching in 2012, but it only supports Bitcoin (as the name suggests).

LocalEthereum was a spinoff launching in 2017 supporting Ethereums' smart contract platform, allowing customers to have a trustless P2P buying experience, with the product guaranteed on payment.

Over the years, LocalEthereum started supporting more coins like LTC and BCH and rebranding into LocalCryptos.

From their site:

What are the key dates I need to know about?

From now until November 4th, all operations will continue normally.

After November 4th, new account creation will be disabled. However, existing users can still use LocalCryptos normally.

After November 18th, new trade creation will be disabled, however existing users can still use the LocalCryptos non-custodial web wallet interface. Trades that are still open after this date can be completed as normal.

Is there a chance that LocalCryptos will come back?

Yes, it is possible that LocalCryptos will make a return in the future. We'll let you know if that happens.

Goodbye

Goodbye, LocalCryptos. We wish your team the best in their future endeavours.
