Difficulty bomb in ETHW fork

With the fork of ETH happening in order to continue a Proof of Work version (ETHW), what is happening with the difficulty bomb? Isn't the bomb meant to stop a PoW chain?

Are miners simply able to remove the difficulty bomb and fork Ethereum?
