How/where to buy ETH easily ATM?

So truth be told, I am pretty new when it comes to how eth works in my mind.. and so as it’s blockchain and all it dapps often run and I understand they work and are good but the behind profile of how the DApp or exchange works it’s like over my head.

Still I do understand a bunch of surface knowledge. Today my question is, how should I buy $eth right now August 2022 to save on gas? And any fees exchanges have?

I see a lot of truly profound potential coming for eth & I’d love to grow my portfolio with it, I just dont want to lose it all in gas like last time or we’ll half of it.. but I hear it’s apt cheaper and ways to convert to layer 2 to get lower fees?? I’m sure you can assume what I mean. Thanks!
