Rumors are, Optimism will be launching their token any day. How will this affect the L2 landscape?

There's lots of rumors floating around Twitter that Optimism, one of the leading rollups, will be launching their token soon. Coinbase even briefly showed a page for their token.

L2s have grown substantively in the last few months, however they're still a ways away from challenging alt-L1s like Avalanche or Solana.

But we've seen how powerful tokens can be for driving growth, and none of the general-purpose L2s have launched tokens yet.

Would love to hear if you guys think these token launches will push L2s into the spotlight and bring them closer to competing L1s?
