Questions about ETH2 and sharding

“Each shard is a separate blockchain with its own state (account balances, smart-contracts) and transaction history.”

Does this mean that users will have to bridge their assets across the different shards in order to interact with different applications? Will it be like moving eth from arbitrum to optimism?
