Staking ETH – are rewards in actual ETH or the dollar value?

I am thinking of staking some of my ETH in Coinbase as ETH 2. It says when ETH converts to ETH 2, rewards would be paid out. Are the rewards paid in ETH or the dollar value of ETH earned? I’d prefer more ETH, so I can let it sit (rather than a dollar amount that I then have to purchase and incur fees).
