The Merge – June 2022

I was browsing Ethereum's source code in github and came across the term TERMINAL_TOTAL_DIFFICULTY. My brain started thinking about the difficulty bomb delay to June 2022. Maybe it was already obvious to everyone but this looks like the date of the merge to me.

Am I connecting two unrelated things here? Thoughts?
