Here is how much you would have earned if you had invested 10k on January 1st 2021

I made 2 simulations, in one I took the Top 10 at 31/12/2021 and in another the Top 10 at 01/01/2021

Top 10 as Today

  • Bitcoin +65% 1.000€ are now 1.800€
  • Ethereum +411% 1.000€ are now 5.500€
  • Binance Coin +1300% 1.000€ are now 15.000€
  • Solana +11.000% 1.000€ are now 119.000€
  • Cardano +668% 1.000€ are now 8.200€
  • Ripple +265% 1.000€ are now 3.900€
  • Terra +13.600% 1.000€ are now 147.000€
  • Polkadot +217% 1.000€ are now 3.400€
  • Avalanche +3.300% 1.000€ are now 36.000€
  • Doge +3480% 1.000€ are now 38.000€

So if you invested 10K in these coins on 01/01/2021, now you would have 380.000€. That means that studying projects and discovering new cryptos pays a lot more that spending your day studying graphs and watching videos of youtubers. However, Doge confirms that also communities and influencers can change the fate of a coin.

Obviously, not everyone is able to study and discover the best crypto before they become mainstream, so I made a second simulation very easy: what if someone simply took the Top 10 crypto on 01/01/2021 and invested 10k on them?

Top 10 as last year

  • Bitcoin +65% 1.000€ are now 1.800€
  • Ethereum +411% 1.000€ are now 5.500€
  • Ripple +265% 1.000€ are now 3.900€
  • Litecoin +18% 1.000€ are now 1.300€
  • Polkadot +217% 1.000€ are now 3.400 €
  • Bitcoin Cash +26% 1.000€ are now 1.350€
  • Cardano +668% 1.000€ are now 8.200€
  • Binance Coin +1300% 1.000€ are now 15.000 €
  • Chainlink +80% 1.000€ are now 1.900€
  • Stellar +108% 1.000€ are now 2.200€

That's very interesting. If you invested 10k, in just one year you would make 45.000€ even if you didn't know anything about crypto and you literally just picked the 10 coins that were on top an year ago.

Edit: Some users are complaining that the math seems wrong. You can try by yourself just by adding coins in your coinmarketcap portfolio and set the date of the purchase on 1 January 2021. I don't know why CMC says that 1000 to 1800 is just +65% and not +80%, I guess the calculation is different than the simple proportion. However we all use CMC everyday so I think it's fair to use its way to calculate the profits.

But most important: why you care about the percentage? This is not a math exam, it's just a post to show some interesting data about the last year of crypto.
