Solo mining Ravencoin and the latency – What it takes to find a block
I've been following the threads on solo mining, and have noticed mentioning of the importance of latency by a couple people, but not further elaborated. My vague understanding is that latency can affect solo mining at a great cost, if one happens to submit the same right share as another at the same time, the one with lower latency would win the block. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
I know that luck is involved, but would like to tease latency factor out from luck. I looked at mine on GMiner, the shares tend to be accepted at around 60ms on average. I also have <0.5% stale share in general. I recall an user mentioned one's at a huge disadvantage with >40ms or so.
My question is: for regular (non-GH/s +) miners who've found a block (and also those who haven't – like me), what were/are your latency ranges/averages? Thanks
