Gas fee differences

Hey there! I just sent some ETH from my HW wallet to coinbase and paid about 15$ in fees. But when I try to send some ERC20 token, the fees are around 80$. Can someone tell me why it's more expensive to send my ERC20 tokens compared to ETH? Because of this, I can't sell some of my tokens as the gas fees would be way to high…
