Question about mining

I am very curious about this question and have not seen anyone ask it. My rig pulls 260mh when I set a max oc on afterburner, I'm going to be temporarily using it for school work so out of curiosity is there any negative impacts ti just setting a low power limit and using the oc settings alone? I know I will take a hit in hashrate but are there any other negative impacts like instability?
