2.81ETH Gas fee?!!

So, Yesterday I tried to promote an NFT on Mintable providing a budget of 0.01ETH, 30 dollars. When the MetaMask window opened I had a small shock, how is it possible that the suggested gas fee was 2.81ETH, 8.43k dollars. And the minimum available fee was around 6k. What's going on? How many transactions are behind this easy contract, how much per transaction? How does it come that I see small sellers selling NFT and promoting them if it's normal for those fees to pop up?
