Solo mining?

I've now seen a couple people really hit the luck factor solo mining. I have Nbminer installed and mining to flypool. How does one mine "solo"? Do I need to change the Nbminer script or download a different software? What are the disadvantages of solo mining? For reference, I have a 3090 avg around 50mhs.
