Out of gas, I still get charged gas fees?

Trying to send eth from my ledger to an exchange, I chose medium speed, £3.78 gas fees and it just says transaction failed out of gas

What did I do wrong? I know it's only a "small" amount of money, but with all the drops today I could do without it
