How can I know my fucking ETH gas fee won’t get eaten?

Long story short, tried to transfer AMP from Coinbase Wallet to Gemini, SOMEHOW, the transaction failed, and I STILL lost my fucking $100 gas fee. Such bullshit, I had no idea that was possible. How can I make sure that scam doesn’t happen again?
