Benefit of raising minimum payout?

Is there any benefit of raising minimum payout beside saving the pool transaction fees?

I seem to remember reading that it can help with the time it takes to transfer the funds later on when moving the currency around in larger amounts (since there are less transactions recorded to transfer). Is this true at all?
