Ravencoin vs Ergo mining. Why did Ergo get more hashrate than RVN after EIP-1559?

It’s nearly impossible to know the proportion of GPUs that switched from ETH to RVN or ERG, but we see the hashrate increases for both RVN and ERG.

It’s important to know the difference of mining hashrates between coins. For Ravencoin, a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 will get you about 45-50 mh/s. For Ergo, the same 3080 will get you around 190 mh/s.

The difference between hashrates depends on the algorithms used to mine the coins.

So no, this does not mean Ergo received more miners from ETH compared to Raven. This also does not mean Raven received more or less miners from ETH. It’s impossible to tell because of the difference in hashrates in each algorithm and which cards were switched over from ETH to Raven or Ergo.

For all the Raven holders and miners out there, don’t let a 5 TH/s increase in Ergo’s network hashrate scare you into thinking no one is coming to mine Raven. For all the Ergo holders and miners, don’t mistake the large increase in TH/s as a sign everyone is going to mine ERG.

Overall, we don’t see the whole picture yet and won’t until ETH moves to Proof of Stake in 2022 (maybe). Best of luck to everyone including the Ergo lurkers in this sub.
