Making a paper wallet

I'd like to take my ethereum out of exhange. What's easy to use and safe way to generate cold/paper wallet?

A quick googling gives one website that just generates the public and private key. Then there seems to be many that need app and/or passwords etc. which I don't really get the point. Isn't it just the public key that's used to transfer ethereum in and private key that's used when emptying it in the future?
