CEX Swap Advice

I have a bit of ETH sitting on a centralized exchange that I would like to swap for a different asset, but I’m concerned about losing a significant amount of money due to high swap fees. Are services like Kraken Plus or Coinbase One actually worth using if my goal is to minimize or possibly eliminate swap fees over time while trading? Additionally, I’ve been holding this ETH for quite a long time. If I swap it into another cryptocurrency, would that trigger a taxable event I need to be aware of?
