Weekly Post : March 15, 2025. Ways to turn your hardware to income.

Welcome to this weekly-ish post. This week, I'd like to explore ways to get income from the computer hardware we own.

I won't hide it, the idea came from another recent thread when someone mentioned renting a GPU instead of mining.

The classic way is to mine some crypto coin (like Ravencoin :-)) and then sell the coin on some Crypto Exchange). This is a tried and true method but the income has been really low (and often negative) in recent months.

There is Unmineable which is basically the same but you can mine using one algo and get paid in another coin, easier to put through exchanges. Again, there is a downside and that is they take an additional cut on your earnings for that service.

I never used them personally but Nicehash is a service where you can rent hashing power and get paid in crypto (or a variation of that model). They have the reputation of being easy to set up and they choose for you which algo is best for your hardware. I don't know how they compare to basic crypto mining in terms of income, so you'll have to help me there.

Another option I found out recently is hardware rental. It's a model similar to Nicehash hashpower rental but it works as well for GPU, CPU, RAM and storage. Some pay in crypto, some pay in currency. At first glance earnings are more generous that for crypto (at the moment) but I don't know enough to say this is a good idea or not. Before lending my hardware, I certainly would like to know if they will run my stuff at max overclock until it burns down or if they require a dedicated computer for their needs. I skimmed a few websites ending with the ".ai" extension. Again, do some of you used them and do you have comments to share ?

This week, I challenge you to share your experience in making some money from your hardware. Was it worth it ? Any complications ? Would you do it again ?

Thanks in advance and have a nice day 🙂
