Ethereum’s Mekong Testnet Shuts Down

On March 7, 2025, the Ethereum Foundation officially pulled the plug on the Mekong Devnet, a temporary testnet launched last October to gear up for the Pectra upgrade. According to their latest blog post (check it out here), Mekong’s job is done—Pectra is now live on Sepolia and Holesky, the big-league testnets, paving the way for its mainnet debut later this month.

Mekong was like Ethereum’s playground: wallet devs tested slick UX upgrades (think EIP-7702), and stakers got hands-on with staking tweaks (EIP-7251, anyone?). But with Sepolia handling app testing and Holesky fine-tuning staking, Mekong’s become yesterday’s news. The Foundation’s urging everyone to shift gears and migrate to those testnets or spin up local setups, keep the Pectra hype train rolling. Aare we finally getting a usable Ethereum, or is Pectra just another overhyped update?
