What is the AggLayer & What does it do?
One of the more exciting developments during the bear has been the AggLayer and how it's looking to connect all of web3 in one, interconnected network. First ideated by Polygon Labs, there are currently over 25 contributors to the AggLayer with more joining regularly.
But what is the AggLayer? The AggLayer is a decentralized protocol designed to address some of the core challenges in blockchain ecosystems, particularly around interoperability, liquidity fragmentation, and scalability. It aims to connect various blockchain networks and enable them to share liquidity, users, and state.
Basically, it allows users to swap assets between chains without having to use multiple bridges.
The TL;DR-
- Increased Liquidity
- Enhanced User Experience
- Interoperability with Trust Minimized (Zero-Knowledge Proofs)
- Chain customization
- Reduced fragmentation
- Real-time proof generation
- Network effect w/ builders
This is one area of web3 I'm super bullish, since there isn't a single sector that won't benefit from plugging into the AggLayer. Imagine chain agnosticism with gaming, RWAs, DeFi, DePIN, etc. Solving chain fragmentation is huge and instead of users having to pick & choose chains w/ a limited market size and liquidity, users can tap into the entire market share of AggLayer.
