Coinbase account hacked and Coinbase has given no accountability

Yesterday morning I got a text from my bank alerting me of potential fraud. I immediately logged into my bank account to see an unauthorized transaction to Coinbase for $400 which was all of the money I had in my bank. I then logged into my Coinbase and saw all of my Bitcoin I previously had plus the newly purchased amount had been converted to cash and withdrawn to an account. Of course I immediately locked my account and called Coinbase to report the fraud. I told them all of the transactions that had just happened were unauthorized.

Coinbase told me they had to open a claim for investigation and they would send me an email asking me questions about the case. I responded ASAP to the email in which they asked which transactions were unauthorized and I gave all the details. There were even several transactions in which they tried to buy more Bitcoin but they did not go through because I didn’t have the money in my bank to pay for it. I got the email notifications for this but not texts. All of this happened within a span of 5 minutes.

Coinbase also asked me questions about if I clicked on any emails or texts claiming to be Coinbase, installed any new software, or anything like that which was all a definite no. I’m very aware about phishing and scamming. I also don’t remember the last time I even logged into my Coinbase account. I only ever use my phone to log in (at home on my secure wifi) and I have 2FA for both my email and and Coinbase. I have no idea how it’s possible someone could have accessed my account. I very strongly feel that it was no fault on my own but compromised security on coinbase’s end.

After lots of back and forth they essentially said there is nothing they can do and that account holders are responsible for the security of their accounts.

As someone who has followed all of the suggested security measures from Coinbase and who was able to report the fraud immediately, I have lost all faith in their ability to keep my account, funds, and personal information secure.

I suggest that no one uses this platform.
