Has AI been developed for predicting crypto surges?

Hey y'all, I'm a machine learning researcher and I'm considering trying to build a neural network that predicts price surges, especially in volatile altcoins. Has this been done before?

I'm thinking of doing it as an LSTM model, which is a type of recurrent neural network for deep learning in time-series data. It would make short-to-medium term predictions based solely on price, by considering price history, futures price history, and trading volume.

I strongly suspect that this strategy can work because of how inherently price-speculatuve the crypto market is. Many people (myself included) make trading decisions primarily based on price.
