Do crypto losses from previous year offset gains from current year as far as taxes goes?
So I lost a good chunk of money from crypto trading during the bear market. Last year I ended up being like 50k in the red.
When I did my taxes this year , I was asked if I traded any crypto and I said yes but TurboTax since I was on loss didn’t ask me how much and that didn’t factor into my taxes
So far this year I have almost made the losses from last year back.
So if I get my 50k back this year , will my last year loss carry over this year or would I pay tax on the 50k even though I am still in the red over the past 3 years?
I have done a lot of trading so the losses and gains aren’t from the same crypto, most of them were daily trading .
Not sure how taxes works in the long term .
Any advice ?
P.S I live in California
