Am I the only one who is frustrated by the poor writing skills of 99% of the crypto "smart people"? Its very difficult to learn when the language is so unclear. This post is a plea to all you who write about crypto.

Very few people seem capable of writing well thought out sentences in grammatically correct, well explained language. It makes understanding a new product or concept very difficult.

What makes matters even worse is that this situation is not caused entirely by laziness or even poor writing ability (though in truth there is a lot of this). Its also caused by an actual lack of THINKING capability. Many people in the space really don't understand the concepts they are writing about very well to begin with.

Lastly, there are so many faddish words being used in crypto that its ridiculous. Simple words are better than longer invented words most of the time, despite the inability to quickly signal to the reader that the writer is within the "cool influencer" group. Many writers mistake their ability to use jingoistic fad words with the ability to really understand something. It shows.

An example from Ripple's post about Automated Market Makers: (My edits or questions are in CAPS)

"What Is an Automated Market Maker (AMM)?

(Requires the AMM amendment ) WHAT DOES THIS SENTENCE MEAN

Automated Market Makers (AMMs) are smart contracts that provide liquidity in the XRP Ledger's decentralized exchange. Each AMM holds a pool of two assets and enables users to swap between them at an exchange rate set by a formula.

TO BEGIN WITH, "LIQUIDITY" IS USED FAR TOO MUCH IN THE COMMUNITY. IT CAN MEAN SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS DEPENDING ON THE CONTEXT, AND IN SOME WAYS IT CAN TAKE MORE THAN ONE OF THOSE MEANINGS AT ONCE DEPENDING ON THE CRYPTO PRODUCT. EVERYONE FEELS COOL SAYING "LIQUIDITY" ET CETERA BUT YOU AREN'T HELPING UNLESS YOU EXPLAIN MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU MEAN.

1) DOES EACH AMM HOLD ONE POOL WITH TWO ASSETS IN IT? OR TWO POOLS, CONTAINING THE SEPARATE ASSETS BUT CONNECTED BY THE AMM? "IT ALLOWS USERS TO SWAP BETWEEN THEM" IMPLIES THERE ARE TWO POOLS. BUT YOU SAID THERE WAS "A POOL" WHICH IS SINGULAR. "ENABLES USERS TO SWAP BETWEEN THEM" – WHAT IS SWAPPED? IT MIGHT BE USEFUL TO BEGIN USING A NEUTRAL WORD LIKE "VALUE" TO HELP THIS EXPLANATION. MAYBE: 'THE AMM ENABLES USERS TO SWAP ONE TOKEN FROM ONE POOL TO ANOTHER TOKEN IN THE SECOND WITHOUT LOSING ANY VALUE. THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF 'FINANCIAL LIQUIDITY', DEFINED AS THE SPEED AT WHICH ASSETS CAN BE CONVERTED TO CASH. IF THE AMM DOES ITS JOB CORRECTLY, BY HAVING A LARGE ENOUGH SUPPLY IN ONE POOL TO SATISFY THE DEMAND IN THE SECOND POOL, THEN WE CAN OBSERVE THAT A SECOND KIND OF LIQUIDITY HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED – 'MARKET LIQUIDITY', WHICH MEANS THAT PRICE ACTION (A CHANGE IN PRICE) DOES NOT OCCUR FROM THE START OF THE EXCHANGE TO THE END OF IT, PRESERVING STABILITY IN AN INSTITUTION'S OPERATIONS AND THUS ENHANCING THE DESIRABILITY OF THE PLATFORM.

For any given pair of assets, there can be up to one AMM in the ledger. Anyone can create the AMM for an asset pair if it doesn't exist yet, or deposit to an existing AMM. Those who deposit assets into an AMM are called liquidity providers (LPs) and receive "LP Tokens" from the AMM.

WHY USE "UP TO ONE"??? MEANING THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE. INSERT "AND ANYONE CAN DEPOSIT INTO AN EXISTING AMM" INSTEAD OF "TO". WHY USE "DEPOSIT ASSETS INTO AN AMM"? DEPOSIT THE ASSETS INTO AN AMM POOL. THAT LINKS THIS PARAGRAPH (AND THE LEARNING ALREADY IN THE READER'S HEAD) TO THE CURRENT ONE.

YOU GET THE PICTURE. THIS AMM WRITING BY RIPPLE GETS MORE COMPLICATED NOT ONLY FOR THE SUBJECT MATTER BUT FOR THE POOR DESCRIPTIVE WRITING AS WELL, AND I WONT ATTEMPT TO UNTANGLE IT FOR YOU BECAUSE I AM FOLLOWING THE FIRST RULE OF CRYPTO WRITING: DONT WRITE ABOUT SOMETHING YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.

CAVEAT – IF I GOT THE TWO KINDS OF PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED LIQUIDITY WRONG I APOLOGIZE. I TRIED TO LEARN IT QUICKLY AND USE IT AS AN EXAMPLE – I THINK IT IS CORRECT BUT IF NOT I LOOK FORWARD TO BEING CORRECTED.
