Justin Sun has issued a bounty “reward”(bribe) of $10 Million in exchange for the return of $120 Million stolen by the hacker. That’s a big risk/reward leap for the hacker to take

I think we all know that Justin Sun's exchange Poloniex was hacked. The hacked sum just kept increasing as time went on but reports seem to settle on it being $120 Million. In response to this, Justin Sun has issued a white hat bounty "reward" of $10 Million for the return of the stolen funds. It is called a reward but in reality really a bribe to the hacker.

There is obviously a big difference between $120 Million and $10 Million. There is however the fact that not having law enforcement on your tail is a pretty decent deal and $10 Million is still a lot. However, the reality is that a crime was still committed and regardless of whether Sun's decides to push the matter to authorities, the authorities themselves can still choose to pursue the hacker as a crime is a crime regardless of whether the victim decides to press the issue.

It's also kind of weird since on-chain messages to the hacker's wallet imply that Sun has turned matters to authorities in Russia and China(as well as the US), but if you know about Sun's history I'm pretty sure China has a few bones to pick with Justin Sun himself(as well as China just being China). I am also pretty sure Russia has much higher priority matters right now. Furthermore, there's a decent chance that the hacker is a state-sponsored agent or a government agent from Russia, China or even North Korea in which case the threat is a huge dud.
