My experience buying Reddit Collectible Avatars

Earlier this week, Reddit launched the Gen4 Avatar collection. This was my first experience with the Reddit Shop, and I also bought one on OpenSea.

Using the Reddit Shop is really easy and user friendly. You got to give it to them, it doesn’t feel like a crypto transaction !

I found a Egypt themed avatar that I liked in the Gen4 collection, so I just bought it with Apple Pay. I know, there’s the Apple Tax and I could’ve get it for a bit cheaper if I dusted off the laptop. Convenience is key for mass adoption

Then I started searching for all the Egypt themed avatars, bought a second one, but the last one I wanted was sold out !!

Now I had to learn how to use OpenSea.

Fortunately I already had some ETH on mainnet, so here’s the step I took :

• Buy a very small amount of MATIC, like 4 of them. It’s really cheap. Send it to your MetaMask wallet, polygon network
• Connect your wallet to OpenSea
• Bridge the ETH on mainnet to the Polygon network using OpenSea
• Buy the Avatar on OpenSea, the MATIC is used for gas
• Wait a few minutes and it’s in your vault !

In conclusion, buying off OpenSea isn’t that hard but it can be off putting for a crypto-newbie. You need to understand a lot of things about crypto to buy an Avatar there

In the end, I achieved my goal of having a few cool-looking avatars, now I can play dress up with Snoo like a grown man !
