How is this possible – obvious scam email for $400 getting payments in btc!

Received an email yesterday. Didn't surprise me too much. The text was obvious and not specific to me.

"Subject: You got Owned

Hello

I know your password!

I infected you with a malware (RAT)/(Remote Administration Tool), some time ago and since then, I have been observing your actions…To stop me, transfer exactly: 400$ with the current bitcoin (BTC)…My bitcoin address is: 13d7dbBJdNCCBxYuodWmYgS2rAN45ToAdB"

This address has received multiple $400 payments in the last few days. This is insane to me and highlights the same failures as gift card scams. I've filed an FTC report but probably nothing will come of it.
