Problem with DYOR is that most people (not only in crypto) can’t do even basic research. How is crypto space supposed to be safe from scams and human mistakes if average investor don’t even bother to use google?

By basic research I mean using google or search function on reddit. How we expect people to read white papers, check some project social media, team members, public records, and news related to projects if they can't even google simplest things.

Most questions or problems average crypto user have can be solved by 5 minutes search on google. If I don't know something in this space my first thought is not to risk it and see what happen or ask other people. My first thought is to do my DYOR and in 5 minutes get all answers. If some problem is complicated then my choice is either to ask people here or spend more time on research. I usually prefer to search myself cause it is more educational and teach me something. Only if I have no time or topic is too much out of my area of experience ( in crypto it would be anything related to programming side or highly technial language, since I am not native speaker) I ask others. DYOR stand for "Do Your Own Research", not "Let Other People Do Everything For You". In long term you can't be successful in crypto if you are not willing to learn more and more whole time amd trust opinions of strangers. If you not improve your knowledge and skills you are going to be left behind. If you ask others even most basic questions that are repeated whole time "Which exchange is the best?", "How to make a wallet?" or "How to send crypto?" it show you put zero effort and rely on other people whole time. And people are biased. Right choice is to check in few different places/ sites to make sure you get as neutral opinion as possible.

You don't know what network certain coin is on? Just google it. Do you think you are first person that ask this question? You don't know how to buy crypto with fiat, connect Metamask to Opensea or how to even start crypto journey? It just mean you can't use even most basic primary school research. Kid should be able to find answers to those questions in less than hour of reading. Especially that Binance, Coinbase, Opensea or Metamask to name a few have guides how to step by step do most of those things. If not them 20 other sites/ articles or videos to learn everything you can.

It is not my malice against average person, but very concerning problem with most people's research skills. We have all human knowledge in our pockets, yet people still struggle in DYOR. And I don't mean advanced DYOR, cause that is hard. Technical side of crypto, advanced terms, tens pages of information, countless numbers can be truly hard to understand. Even as experienced investor once in a while you see something crypto related and don't understand 90% of the info you read. It is natural, no one can know everything and it is not even necessary to be successful. Unfortunately that's not where most people struggle. They have problems even on doing most basic research, which put their crypto investments at risk. All possible knowledge is accessible for free in the internet, you just need to use it properly. 90% of scams or mistakes in crypto space could be avoided if people would do one google search to make sure what they do.
