Does ethdo not support the 4-letter mnemonic as recovery seed?

I tried to create a new wallet today. The obtained seed, I have truncated to only the first 4 letters and tried to recover my wallet as I thought this is common practice. I was surprised to see that ethdo only accepts the whole word. The 4-letter seed gives me an "invalid mnemonic" message. Did I miss something here?
