What are the chances to create a new wallet and find out someone before had funded that address by mistake?

If someone for some reason sent coins in the past to a valid bitcoin address which has not yet been used by anyone

they sit under that address until someone does get lucky enough to create a wallet using that address.

Remember – when you “send bitcoins” you don’t send anything at all – you simply create a new entry on the blockchain ledger which says “this value is now protected by the owner of the private key which matches this public key (the bitcoin address)” You never even had the coins – just permission to give them to someone else…

So what are the chances to happen or does anyone heard that if it have happened to anyone before and got lucky ?

And if it is possible to happen would you think original sender might determine if the address is being used and can trace ?
