Where should I hold my bags

I always wanted to get into crypto and a couple of months ago I finally got enough money that I was happy to risk, I knew I could lose it and I'd be completely fine. So after limited research I started my journey with Crypto.com. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised by how user-friendly the platform was, even for caveman like me. However, after making a few surprisingly good investments and gaining some experience, I've come to realize that there is no security on an exchange if they go up in smoke. And the spread offered by crypto.com is a joke definitely made me chuckle when I realised.

So now, I'm on the hunt for a new platform to move my coins to and continue my journey in the crypto world. I have the intention of buying more and hodling my investments for the long-term, with the possibility of taking some profit if I'm lucky enough.

I'm looking for advice from the community on where I should move my coins to and what platform would be the best for someone like me who's capable but not exactly a crypto expert. If you were explaining it to your dad, what would you say? Of course I plan to do my own research but I'd appreciate any and all advice, thanks in advance!
