As hype/rug based projects fade into obscurity, I feel 2023 could be the big year for decentralized VPNs.

Vitalik has mentioned decentralized VPNs numerous times as a great use case for blockchain and “not be too difficult to do in a very simple form that's roughly incentive compatible.” Decentralized VPNs can be split into two broad categories, those that require specialized hardware to join the network and those that don’t.Helium and Deeper network both require specialized hardware and both have unfortunately tanked in price (-95% 1yr) and consumer faith. Sharing an internet connection should not require a unique device considering most smartphones are more than powerful enough in 2022. Smells very vapourware-esque to me…Therefore, I would like to shoutout and consider you to DYOR on the two biggest working projects I have found in the space that DO NOT require specialized hardware.

  1. Mysterium VPN ($5m mcap) is the most well-known and “biggest” DVPN with over 14k noderunners. They have over 400k downloads on Google Play and run on the Polygon network.
  2. Sentinel DVPN ($2.5m mcap). Similar to Mysterium and also an OG project, runs on the Cosmos network.I’ve used both clients for online gambling and media streaming with zero real issues and great speeds. Even left it on during a video game and didn’t realise…We are quick to bury scams in crypto but how come we don’t promote working products and great uses of blockchain?
