Tricky situation.

Let's say someone has old ETH that has been sitting in a exchange in china. That person wants to move the ETH to another north American exchange but doesn't want anyone to follow the breadcrumb trail of transactions linked to the Chinese exchange by following the transactions from the North American exchange. How would someone cloud the transactions in between?

Is Monero a solution for this? If one was to swap the ETH for monero, send it to an exchange in North America and then swap back to ETH would that break the link of transactions since Monero is built for privacy?
