Aztec Connect, a layer-2 zkRollup that provides privacy and scalability but without l2 liquidity fragmentation

Aztec Connect recently launched in July of 2022. Aztec is a layer 2 rollup solution but with the benefit of privacy. When you use the Aztec network, no one is able to see your transactions except yourself using the Aztec block explorer. Only when you send/withdrawal Eth/Dai to the contract can someone see you've sent/withdrawn funds to/from Aztec on a block explorer. While your funds are inside Aztec, they are shielded from public view.

You can transact on Aztec how you normally would because Aztec interacts directly on the Ethereum mainnet. This means whatever DeFi apps like Uniswap or Curve can be interacted with, BUT with cheaper gas fees and you get to keep your privacy. The gas fees aren't quite as cheap as other L2 rollups like Arbitrum or Optimism, but you trade slightly higher gas fees for privacy. Additionally because Aztec interacts directly with L1 mainnet, you don't have to worry about liquidity fragmentation like other L2 networks. I think this is a HUGE benefit.

You can learn more about Aztec by going to their site, aztec.network or launch directly to the l2 network by going to zk.money

Why would you use Aztec?

  • Privacy
  • Cheaper gas fees
  • Don't have to worry about liquidity fragmentation like other L2 networks

As great as Aztec sounds in regards of the recent news of Tornado Cash, be cautious as Aztec has not been externally audited. They have undergone 2 internal audits and do have a bug-bounty program out to decrease smart contract risk.

Aztec is NOT a mixer service like Tornado Cash is. Aztec just shields your transactions from prying eyes. Do not be fooled.
