eth vs btc

if i want to invest 10k to ether. my return would be higher than if i invest 10k in btc if they each reach back to ATH ? correct? do btc and eth follow each other? do you guys think eth could take over bitcoin? I just wanted some advice really which is the better investment, and what i want out of these coins are returns.
