Front running bot?

There is a video on YouTube of how to make a front running bot and make a lot of profit a day. Feels scamish. the explanation on how it works is not clear. Scans the mempool for pending transactions and sandwiches a transaction and takes profit. Can someone perhaps explain how this works or if it is BS?
