How does a decentralized system like ETH coordinate in urgent times?
I’ve been thinking about this question ever since Solana went down recently. As you may know Solana’s validators had to get in a discord chat to arrange to restart the system, which is seen by many as centralization. However some argue this is just coordination and there’s a distinction between coordination and centralization, which also makes some sense. So I’ve been wondering, in a much more decentralized system like Ethereum, how do different actors coordinate in a time of emergency? Let’s say there’s a malicious censorship attack on Ethereum by bad actors and immediate actions need to be taken, how would the validators (in the future), nodes, devs, and users coordinate without any central channel? Would it mainly rely on individual parties’ decisions and actions without much coordination?
